Holiday Shopping Safety Tips From Your Packaging Partner

Written by Bill Madl | Nov 26, 2017 7:24:00 AM

The holiday season is always a special time of year when people venture out to do their shopping.  It can be a problem though when people become reckless in what they are doing and  become vulnerable to theft and other holiday crime. Since we can never be too cautious, too prepared or too aware, please share these holiday shopping safety tips with family, friends and neighbors.

  • Avoid driving at night or all alone, if possible, and do your shopping during the day. If you must shop at night, park in a well-lighted area.
  • Keep all car doors locked and windows closed while in or out of your car.
  • Avoid parking next to vans, trucks with camper shells, or cars with tinted windows. Always be aware of your surroundings.
  • Park as close as you can to where you are shopping and pay attention to where you parked.
  • Don't ever leave your car alone with children inside or with your motor running.
  • Do not leave packages or valuables on the seat of your car as this creates a temptation for thieves. Try to put your packages in your trunk or on the floor of your car, out of sight as best you can.
  • When going back to your car from shopping, find your keys and have them ready. Use your key fab alarm to find your car if necessary.
  • Keep a secure hold on your purse, handbag and parcels. Do not put them down or on top of the car in order to open the door.
  • Do not approach your car alone if there are suspicious people in the area. Go back inside and ask security for help if need be.
  • While shopping, try not to bring too much cash, but if you do, keep it in your front pocket.
  • If you bring a purse, wallet or handbag inside, don't leave them unguarded in your shopping cart.
  • Avoid wearing expensive jewelry. Dress should be casual and comfortable. Don't allow yourself to be a "target".
  • If shopping with children, keep them close to you and don't allow them to use the restroom or go anywhere alone or unsupervised.
  • For packages delivered to your home, and this eCommerce business is growing in leaps and bounds, make sure the delivery company knows what to do if you aren't home. Suggest a camera to record entry ways where packages would be put when delivered. Consider having them left on your back door or at a neighbors.
